Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
How do I get started?
It’s a simple 3 step process:
- Contact me at 404.314.8215, alleyspeechtherapy@gmail.com, or using the Contact button in the menu. I will reach out promptly to discuss your needs
- We will schedule an initial evaluation based on your concerns. You can schedule through me or self-schedule by clicking Book an Appointment in the menu. If your child has been evaluated in the past 12 months and you can provide a copy of this evaluation, we can proceed straight to the treatment.
- A link to my Patient Portal will be emailed to you. Please sign up through the Patient Portal and complete the forms prior to your evaluation and/or first session. Thank you!
What happens after the evaluation?
I will review the results with you, and if treatment is needed I will recommend a length and frequency based on your child and family’s unique needs. The most common recommendation is weekly for 50 minutes, but this can vary based on your situation.
My child had a recent evaluation. Do they need another one?
If your child has had a thorough evaluation in the past 12 months and your concerns have not changed, I will typically accept that evaluation and we can begin therapy immediately.
Therapy Services
Where do therapy sessions take place?
Alley Speech Therapy offers two location options: you can visit me at my in-person clinic in the Sylvan Park neighborhood of Nashville or online via telehealth. The clinic is located at 414 Acklen Park Drive, Unit 8, Nashville, TN 37205. If you choose to come to my clinic in person, you will be seen in a cozy, private therapy room with a wide variety of toys and lots of natural light. If you choose telehealth, you can see me at the location of your choice!
Who can be present for the session?
Parents and caregivers are always welcome to be part of sessions, whether we’re meeting in person or through telehealth. I believe that meaningful progress happens when the important people in a child’s life feel confident and equipped to support communication outside of our sessions. That’s why family involvement—and caregiver training—is a core part of my approach.
Siblings are also welcome to attend when appropriate. If we find that a sibling’s presence supports the session (or simply makes it easier for your family to participate), we’ll work together to make that happen in a way that keeps our focus on your child’s goals.
I truly value collaboration with families, and I’m always happy to have you in the room—your presence matters.
Why choose private therapy?
There are many paths to speech and language services, and choosing the right one for your family can feel overwhelming. One of the key benefits of private therapy—especially in a small, clinician-owned practice like Alley Speech—is the level of personalized care your child receives.
Because I manage a limited caseload, I’m able to devote focused attention to each family I work with. I’m not bound by the restrictions of large organizations or insurance-driven policies, which means I can adapt every aspect of therapy to meet your child’s unique needs and your family’s goals—without delays or red tape.
This model of truly individualized, relationship-based care is exactly why I founded Alley Speech Therapy. If you’re looking for a more personal, flexible, and collaborative approach, I’d be honored to be part of your journey.
Payment & Insurance
Do you accept insurance?
I am not currently in-network with any insurance companies, which means I do not bill insurance directly or collect co-pays. However, I’m happy to provide detailed documentation—often called a superbill—that you can submit to your insurance company if you’d like to pursue out-of-network reimbursement.
Many families find that private-pay therapy offers more flexibility, privacy, and consistency, without the limitations that can come with insurance—such as session caps, required diagnoses, or restrictions on treatment methods. You can click “Why choose private therapy” above to learn more about the benefits of this personalized model and why it might be a good fit for your family.
If you’re interested in using your out-of-network benefits, a good first step is to call your insurance company and ask:
- Do I have out-of-network benefits for speech therapy?
- Is a referral or prior authorization required?
- What CPT codes are covered (e.g., 92523 for evaluation, 92507 for treatment)?
- What percentage of the cost will be reimbursed?
- Is there a deductible I need to meet first?
- How do I submit a superbill for reimbursement?
You’re also welcome to contact me directly—I’d be happy to walk you through a more detailed step-by-step guide to checking your benefits.
How will I be billed for services?
When your first session is scheduled, you’ll receive access to a secure Patient Portal where all of your child’s therapy information is stored. Before we begin, you’ll enter your preferred payment method—credit, debit, or HSA card—all of which are accepted.
Your card will be billed after each completed session. At the end of each month, you’ll receive a superbill by email, summarizing all services provided and payments made. If you choose to seek out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance company, you can use this document to submit your claim. If you prefer more frequent billing summaries, I’m happy to provide those upon request.
Telehealth & Technology
Will telehealth be as effective as in-person therapy?
My answer is a resounding yes! Research continues to show that speech therapy delivered through telehealth can be just as effective as in-person sessions, even for young children, when the environment is right and the provider is experienced.
One of the biggest strengths of teletherapy is how naturally it empowers caregivers. In your own home, you become an active part of the therapy process—not just an observer. Because I can’t physically take over a task or redirect your child in real time, I’ll coach you with personalized strategies so you feel confident doing that yourself. That means the learning doesn’t stop when the session ends—it carries into everyday routines, making the impact even more powerful.
We’ll use a mix of everyday items from your home and engaging online resources tailored to your child’s age and goals. This ensures that every activity we do together is easy to replicate throughout the week using the materials already around you.
Telehealth also makes it easier to stay consistent, which is one of the most important factors for progress. When you can log in from anywhere—home, work, even the car—it removes many of the common barriers that come with traveling to a clinic.
That said, I also recognize that telehealth isn’t the best fit for every child. That’s why every family starts with a free consultation call to discuss your needs and goals. If we move forward, an initial evaluation will help determine the most effective service delivery model for your child—whether that’s telehealth, in-person therapy, or a blend of both. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach at Alley Speech; every child and family receives personalized care designed for meaningful, lasting progress.

What equipment will I need for a telehealth session?
Telehealth sessions at Alley Speech are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant version of Zoom. All you’ll need is a device with Zoom installed—such as a laptop, tablet, or smartphone—and a quiet space where your child can focus and participate.
Zoom typically offers the best experience on a laptop or desktop, since more features are available. That said, every family’s setup is a little different. Some children do better with a tablet they can easily control themselves, while others—especially younger kids who like to move—may benefit from using a phone that’s easier to carry around.
We’ll talk through your specific setup and needs during your consultation, and I’ll help you determine the best device and environment to make your telehealth sessions successful and stress-free.
Where can I do telehealth?
One of the biggest advantages of telehealth is flexibility—you can join a session from almost anywhere! Whether you’re at home, traveling, or juggling a busy day, this model allows us to adapt to your real-life schedule and environment. Life happens, and I’m always happy to adjust sessions to make sure your child can stay on track, even if you’re logging in from a different location than usual.
That said, for the most effective therapy experience, we’ll work together to create a consistent setup that supports your child’s success. Ideally, this means choosing a quiet, distraction-free space with a reliable internet connection and using the same device each week. It also helps to meet in a room away from non-therapy toys and family members who aren’t involved in the session. When possible, gather the materials we’ve discussed ahead of time—having only the needed items in the room helps your child stay engaged and focused.
Every family’s home and routine look a little different, so I’ll help you find a setup that works best for yours. Together, we’ll make sure your telehealth sessions are effective, comfortable, and tailored to your child’s needs.
